I caught hundreds of pinfish yesterday. Not single Pompano nor Spanish Mackerels. I decided to stay home and make some hook less pompano jigs to comply with the November 15 – March 15 one hook policy in the Sunshine Skyway piers. Safety first. I lost 13 pompano jigs and 20 plus teasers but managed to catch two keepers 9:10AM - My favorite place to fish. The Skyway bridge south pier. I arrived a few minutes ago. Not too many people. The water is so dirty. I lost 13 Pompano jigs and 20 plus teasers to Stingrays but managed to catch 2 keepers. 9:22PM - Something big is very active down there. I found out later they were Stingrays. 9:30AM - My first keeper of the day. Almost a 12 inches. 9:40AM - My second keeper of the day. A bit smaller than the first one. I caught them both in the shallow area. 9:52AM - My first Pompano jig and teaser I lost to Stingray. FYI, I am using a 30lb mono leader and a 30lb braided main line. 10:21AM - Mystery solves! So, it was Stingrays that keep cutting my line. 10:30AM - My second Pompano jig and teaser Stingrays took. 10:41AM - Rushing to fix my line, I cut my left index finger after I hooked my right pinky finger. 12:21PM - I put up a brand-new Pompano rig and abandoned the shallow area after I lost 4 or 5 pompano jigs and teasers there. Then another Stingray broke completely that line. 12:30PM - I lost another line completely. No matter where I go Stingrays are everywhere. 2:52PM - First time I caught this species. I don’t know the name of this beautiful fish. I also lost that Pompano jig and teaser to Stingray a few minutes later. 3:16PM - Did I say that was my 9th Pompano jig I lost to Stingray? I honestly lost count folks! 4:21PM - My third Pompano of the day. Unfortunately, too small. 4:23PM - Another Pompano jig and teaser lost to Stingray? This is getting out of control! 7:45PM - I could have caught 13 Stingrays with my Pompano jig and teasers if those lines did not break. Obviously, I was using cheap fishing lines. I caught 2 twelve inches POMPANOS on my homemade POMPANO JIG and TEASER. This is the 3rd day of my 4 days Labor Day weekend holiday. I am getting tired POMPANO JIGGING for at least 7 hours each day just to catch 2 POMPANOS a day or nothing at all. According to the one guy I spoke, POMPANOS are very active on this BRIDGE for at least two months now. That's probably the reason why I couldn't catch any POMPANO in the SKYWAY BRIDGE SOUTH and NORTH PIERS. Thank you so much to Face on Channel for posting his video. Anyhow, I started buying our telescopic FISHING RODS and REELS combo on October 4, 2021 from Amazon and immediately started fishing as soon as it arrived. My wife was the first one who HOOKED our very first POMPANO at FT. DESOTO GULF PIER on March 20, 2022 at 12:43PM. We were driving home from a 2-day weekend golf tournament in St. Agustine Florida in Rt 4 West. This SUV caught our attention. This person is driving like crazy. He stopped in the middle of the highway and trying to communicate with us with hand gestures which we have no clue what he was trying to say.

I caught 85 small size blue runners at the Skyway bridge south pier in one day. This was January 7, 2023. Small size blue runners started to bite around 8:50AM. I went home around 2PM and these small blue runners are still biting. Unfortunately, history will not repeat itself next year for sure. I won’t be able to catch 85 blue runners at the Skyway bridge south pier in one day next year due to this new regulation that we cannot use Sabiki rigs anymore from the month of September to the month of March. Also, we are only allowed to use one hook per line.

This is the day I feel so stupid. With my rear dash camera, I was able to find the video clip that shows how I lost the very expensive fishing rod and reel I owned. I was in a hurry to get to Ft. Desoto Gulf Pier before it gets too late to catch some Pompanos over there.
